Its how people treat religion, the Christian faith promotes love and to be kind, but humans just twist it too their own wants and needs so they can kill each other or take advantage.

Religion ...something God or Jesus probably would never have approved oƒ!

@3tangle3 Quite so like Scotland it wasn't a democracy.
-
@gaconnochie the english people didnt even want the union

breaking the union of the crowns never mind move towards a closer incorporating union. It was only then in Anne's reign that serious pressure really mounted from England for union. It came about during a Stuart's monarch reign and most of the previous Stuarts had tried to either maneouvre Scotland towards union or at the very least use the English power base to influence Scotland. William was not particularly unusual in that.

@felipescotland77 Actually I'm not a pro-unionist. There is a big difference between someone having an influence and vested interest to someone having London masters. James himself had ruled from London so there is no difference between the pre and post revolution scenario. The union was no closer really in William's reign than it had been in that of the monarchs before him. In fact it looked at first at the turn of the century when the Scots had enough of semi-union that they would opt for

But to suggest that Williamite big-wigs in London had no vested interest or influence — politically and financially — during this period is absolute nonsense. Any fool can pick up a basic encyclopedia and read as much. The events at Killiecrankie took place less than twenty years before the so-called Treaty of Union —which was foisted on Scotland.

had little choice. Being the main royalist henchman during the Killing Times, and being loathed throughout especially Presbyterian southern Scotland, he would know he was a marked man as soon as his boss lost his power base.
-
@felipescotland77 Kind of agree with your post excepting the bit about London masters! Killiecrankie was pre-union. The Jacobites were fighting the forces of the Scottish govt in Edinburgh. The Scottish parliament had met and after receiving letters from both James and William they ruled in favour of Wiliam, branded James a traitor and stripped him off his crown. Seeing he had no solid support in the Lowlands Graham (ie Dundee) went to the Highlands ro raise a rebellion. In truth he probably
