Pvt. Elmer H. Ake (1925 - 2007) served as a medic with Company B of the 417th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army during World War II. The recipient of two Purple Hearts, he composed a collection of poetry about his wartime experiences in Europe. His poems can be viewed at the Elmer H. Per my request, Mr. Ake recorded this oral history which has been set to music and images as a tribute to him and to all the military veterans of World War II. Comments are welcome and very much appreciated.

  • RESPECT the DEAD

  • To get to the real war at the fundamental level, void of the glam and glory that can be a little over the top, listen to GI, a foot soldier, the "grunts" that carried out the bulk of the dirty work.

  • Great vid!
