Wow, you guys saw the live broadcast? Amazing! What a privelidge now to think you saw this "lost" classic. I love them all, I read the script book of Quatermass Experiment and thought it was the most gripping thing I'd ever read in my life. Hugely influential, musta terrified the life out of the older generation at the time, as well as any littlies who caught it!
Ade.

God this was scary when I was 4 years old in the middle of the last century.
Pitcairn2 is spot on - it really was scary. I was a little bit older than him and remember it well. What a great pity little or nothing of the original TV series exists.
Thanks szofiel for posting this brief clip. I am one of the hardcore fans that doesn't particularly rate the 1955 film version. As writer Nigel Kneale apparently said, the Quatermass of the film was played by Brian Donlevy as a bully rather than the mild mannered but courageous professor he created.

Indeed. Kneale, rather than anyone else, placed Donleavy performance as artificial and lacking of any commitment than those of TV broadcasts. Also, reading your comment on 2005 remake, not very pleased as you state, makes me so envious. I would certainly had loved to see those chapters.
Cheers

On IMDB there's a 1953 TV series and a 1955 movie. Whats the difference?...

A huge one, in fact. In order to move the original story from those transmissions made on TV, two years later the picture was produced with the legendary Hammer studios. However under the name "Quatermass Xperiment", with so many differences from the original, that some hardcore fans of Quatermass despise this version as less than annoying and quite far from the real spirit of TV broadcasts. Even in that guise, the picture is among Sci-Fi classics of the 50's.
