@visgirl I used learning Spanish like crazy + the free fsi stuff that came with it, & a grammar book. Speak speak& speak. U must make mistakes & be unafraid. 9 months & I could hold a basic convo with slower speakers. Then I moved to DR and taught esl. I quickly realized me town had lots of English speakers, so you'd be there & actually NOT have to speak Spanish so I forced myself to only hang with Haitians who speak Spanish & Dominicans. If you can volunteer tutoring esl at a local center, or church, there could be a chance to have convo exchange etc, or just teach a class that can't speak English. Your basic Spanish will be practiced.
