  • @icyos Mac OS X is not based off Linux. It's based off BSD.

  • @MrMoneyHelper To install it on an USB device take a look at google. For booting: Yes just restart the computer and press F12 to enter the boot menu (it is F12 for mine but it may vary. It there is no button "Enter Boot Menu" then go in the setup (F2 for mine) and enable it.). There you will have all your bootable devices listed. Choose your USB drive and RADY TO ROCK

Sry for my english if it is not clear. Have a nice time with Linux, wou won't regret!

    EASE OF USE BABEEEEEEEYY

  • @chris230291 Mac OS X is mostly based off FreeBSD an open source operating system

  • @chris230291 Have you ever tried turning a PC into a Hackintosh? It is a pain in the ass!

  • @icyos OS X is based on Unix. Linux is part of the "Unix-Like" family of operating systems as it does not conform to the Unix specification. So you're incorrect in stating that OS X is based on Linux. They kind of both draw upon the same origin, though OS X is fully Unix compliant whereas Linux is not.

  • If I run Linux from a USB or other portable hard drive, how do I boot it? Do I just restart the Windows machine and press some buttons to boot from it? Which buttons must be pressed to get the bios screen where I can choose the Linux USB connection? Are the buttons different for each manufacturer? On my HP there is no boot screen. It goes directly to the OS. It does the same on my Mac Book and Gateway computers.

I really want to buy a SSD and put Linux on it as my portable computer.

  • @PureGenerationY yeah i know! linux is da best. i use ubuntu aand its awesome! :3

  • @Xaahu Dude, Linux is an even more concentrated form of the Unix kernel than Mac OSX is. Linux is also open source, meaning that instead of a bunch of disgruntled apple programmers writing the software, we have millions of willing and able programmers doing it as a labor of love. Also, I'd like to see you customize OSX... yeah, not happening.
