  • @ParasEnForce I can understand something, cause im Polish.

  • It's so great being from a slavic country :D I undarstand a lot what they say in the video =) So in my language: Slava VDV

  • @Jager762 hardly, the gruzies were asking for it. You just don't launch a full on arty barrage on sleeping people no matter how much you hate em and expect to get away with it unharmed. God is ever vigilant and he punishes!

  • Russia is like the ONLY military power left in the world who realizes the potential of airborne troops. The VDV is one of the BIGGEST parts of their military, everything in ours (including many spec ops and counterterrorist units) is bigger than our airborne, who no longer use parachutes, but are heli dropped. I say Russia has that advantage over us.

  • actually they also choose the maroon beret but they switched to blue in the 60's because it was to western like.

  • 82abnoff, if so then respect to you for your war service.

I say again, removing external factors and like for like, no matter how many of them you kill, they would still wipe you out. Don't take that as a slur on 82nd AB, it's a good formation with a proven track record. It's my opinion based on what I know of them (VDV) and of 82nd AB. VDV training is brutal and they don't use women soldiers. Hopefully, the answer will never prove itself.

(Incidentally, why 82abnoff instead of 101aboff?)

  • I was only with the 82nd for a few months at Ft. Bragg. I was with the 101st Airborne for about a year in Vietnam. We used real bullets.

  • The 82nd is a fine unit, I worked with you guys in the 90s. Like for like, you'd take a toll on the VDV but you would still be wiped out.

  • We have a common enemy and we'd surely do better united. But invading Georgia has us totally distrusting Russian foreign intentions.

  • The Soviet Airborne (VDV) were the FIRST Paratroopers. They chose the Blue Beret and it's the symbol of a world elite. The rest of the world generally wear the Maroon Beret introduced by the British Airborne in 1942. In the early days some other units thought that gay - to their cost. In my opinion, the VDV officers should bin their caps and wear only the beret - blue or maroon, a universally recognised symbol of the elite.

    Si - ex British Paratrooper
