2 Part Lecture on Weight Discrimmination and ED Diagnosis and Associated Misconceptions and Stereotypes.
This series was orginally made for Recovery Happnes Now! which is no longer running. I chose to upload my lecture to my own account to help further benefit others. Here is the original text from the info box:
Johnny from Femmes on Friday lectures on Painfulfsoulbleedings topic request: weight discrimination and eating disorder diagnosis, as well as associated misconceptions and stereotypes. In this series I put strong emphasis on the medical field as that is where we get most of our information from and where we go to seek help for eating disorders. Education is crucial in effectively treating eating disorders yet so many people are misinformed due to generalized belief boxes (stereotypes) even those we are supposed to trust the most when getting help: DOCTORS. I am not trying to bash the medical field. I am standing up for my own beliefs that we need to stop weight discrimination, misconceptions and stereotypes in relation to eating disorders. This includes medical interaction which really holds the power to help change things but first it must change. How can you help? SPEAK UP. Every voice counts. We must show the world the realities of our eating disorders weight does not determine how sick you are or what sickness you suffer from.
This is a 2 part series. I found it very difficult to get all my points across in 10 minutes. The total runtime of this video is roughly 15 minutes.
You are watching Part 1.

(2) I cant speak for general practitioners, but the therapists&psychiatrists I have seen can tell when a person is truly suffering&it doesn't matter how long it has been going on. BUT, when you have mental health facilities that so many people seek out to get specialized treatment, you have to make sure they do fit a criteria so they can have room for you. It really is a shame that residential, IOP, PHP places can be so limited but if there wasn't a baseline, there wouldnt be organization.

(1) I know you posted this a while ago but I still wanted to comment. I truly do agree with you about how we have so many limited categories that box people in and stereotype and also stigmatize people. I'm not a big fan of diagnosing, but as a person studying psychology, I can understand why it is the way it is. Most mental health counselors whose main focus is the patient and really do care about helping people, will say that a person is suffering no matter what.

I have been struggling with thoughts on this for a very long time. I am at average weight, but suffer from anorexia. I figured that since I wasn't 'skinny' I was not sick, nor could I ever be treated. I still feel this way somewhat, since in order to really be treated, doctors need to see an urgency. I don't understand why, and I want to get better. I hope one day I can overcome this, and live a happy life.

I had a similar experience to mcehoffman. There's nothing worse than finally telling someone about your bulimia than them coming back at you with "You don't look that thin."
Also, I have a friend with an ED and she wanted to get help but couldn't be accepted as inpatient b/c her weight wasn't low enough.
You brought up a lot of really good points dear, I hope more people watch this! (and ps you look adorable with your glasses and tie!)

They are IGNORANT. You are not, you are only feeding their ignorance by going along with it and allowing the ED to become their attitudes and ignorance. My love, I know you well enough to know you are stronger than that shit. Get out of that headspace NOW before it trys to invade and start up some shitty ass relapse. Please consider your options, your thoughts and actions. I am sorry you went through that but glad to know you are strong enough to PULL THROUGH IT. I love you. HUGS, hardcore
