Project Coach co-founder Sam Intrator (a Smith College professor) describes the work of PC in an interview on the WWLP morning news. The program's mission (co-founded with Don Siegel) is to teach high school students from under served communities to be high-level youth sport coaches who then work with adults in their community and neighborhoods to initiate and run Project Coach Sport Leagues for elementary-aged children that promote intensive activity, teach about health and nutrition, and develop values of sportsmanship and teamwork. For PC, coaching is an authentic leadership role that provides us with the opportunity to teach crucial life skills to our adolescent participants such as communications, goal setting, collaboration, giving and receiving feedback, conflict resolution and more. We believe that sport is a powerful hook to involve adolescents in activities that promote positive youth development.
