So you were "there" I take it? hehehe. OMG, the time I spent on that game. I remember playing for 10-12 hours at a time, going to bed & literally dreaming that I was still playing! LOL. More than just MMOG competition, The UO team itself was responsible for it's own demise. Too many "rules" & then they blurred the line between reality & VR. Banning/punishing paying customers for periods of time (deliberate denial of service). I quit after my house decayed during the 9/11 issues/problems.

EXACTLY!!! Anyone that was not there will never understand how AWESOME it was. All of the MMOs since then Pre-UO:R are care bare games. Remember to watch out for the naked players at BB! LOL!!

Me too. Miss it! I played from Autumn of 1997 to Autumn of 2001. Some people now have no idea what MMOG was like in the beginning. It was like the Wild Wild West, lol. There will never be another game like it, or anything that can recapture the feeling and mystery of those early days of online gaming. Some people do not like the isometric graphics. Personally I prefer them over 3-D, which tends to give me a bit of a headache. Anyway, very fun game in it's day! Fare-thee-well, Britannia!

ulmaria.webs.com - Ulmaria is a private and free Ultima Online server. Our goal is to provide a more refined UO experience. We are true to the Ultima Series and base our world around that. Our world is a true sandbox offering actual land for housing, mortal guards in towns, so if you commit a crime you will have a fighting (or running) chance. 600 stat cap, no skill cap. RPG server, PKing and PVP allowed any time anywhere except for starting town.

Despise! Oh how I miss this game. I played from T2Aish all the way to Samurai Empire or whatever, then I finally couldn't stand missing the old days. Freeshards just aren't the same because there's no variance of players, everybody's a pvp mage with razor macros and all that shit. I miss the game when it was fresh. Have never really considered trying another MMORPG, just have to be content with missing the old days.

@JeffeyFish It is because they are removing pointless and stupid tasks from the games... Man, it is true, UO in official servers is crap, it is NOT fun to have to spend half of your life to be good at pvp.When I realized that I ran away... Free shards on the other hand are more fun. Everything is fast... you can do it AFK and then just do some pvp...this is the best aspect of UO. Everything else sucks in my opinion.
