On 5 November 2009, senior figures from the public and voluntary sectors in the North West signed a partnership agreement which will guarantee closer working during the economic downturn and beyond. The North West Regional Compact, launched at the offices of Voluntary Sector North West in Manchester, enshrines a commitment by both sides to work together for the benefit of local communities. The two sides have already joined forces to work on the Future Jobs Fund, an employment initiative which is expected to create more than 11,000 jobs in the region, many of them in the voluntary and community sector. The first people to benefit from Future Jobs Fund in the region started work in the first week of November at Fusion 21, a social enterprise supporting the work of housing associations in the Liverpool City Region.
