  • kinda like he didn't have to try very hard, he really makes it look easy doesn't he.

  • Yeah, The Bid made most races he ran look effortless. He was terrific. Take care.

  • Wow, that's true, Bid really scared them off, only three challengers in a major Derby prep. At that point the Blue Grass was held very close to the Derby, less than two weeks. They eventually had to move it back to attract top horses.

Bid was a fantastic horse to watch. So many dominant efforts I think his place in history is secure, even without the Triple Crown.

  • I agree, The Bid did scare 'em off. It's very interesting that his handlers would run him just 2 weeks before the Derby. It was quite risky, I think. Take care.

  • Only in American racing can you have a four horse field with a horse four wide. Unbelievable.

  • @johnnyblack1974 : True nuff. The Bid ran 8x at 1-20 odds, and 6x with 1-10 odds!!

All sports have become pampered. Tennis. Tie-breakers. Finals: 2 out of 3 sets. I like the old days, when you'd see sets of 27-25, when finals were 3 out of 5 sets!! When men were men!

Citation won the Derby on 3 days rest, after winning the one mile Derby Trial. He ran 20 times as a 3yo. If a horse runs 6 times today as a 3yo, it's a big deal!!!

  • I just love the photographer in the infield at the final turn! No way you'd get to heavily lean in toay during a race as this guy did to catch a picture of the Bid blazing along today. I'd love to see that pic today :)

  • Looks like the race didn't take much out of him. That's what we used to call the "pokey lokey". ;)

Thanks again for these wonderful vids!

  • I'm guessing it's the legendary Cawood Ledford who was the beloved, longtime voice of UK (University of Kentucky) football and basketball. Just a guess on my part.

  • That's some interesting trivia. I can't say I recognize the race caller.
