  • @smokeeater908

I've got a fantastic idea!! I'll email you pics this week.

Yeah but the black paint looks so much cooler!! Lol.

  • I think the difference in time is pretty negligible. Although the paint won't cause an decrease in boil time, it will help protect against corrosion, which is aggravated by the flame.

  • Just use Esbit or wood a time or 2 and the bottoms will be black anyway... :)

  • @MrClean417 but you have to be thorough in your tests or they are just examples not proofs.

  • I'm sorry but that's not enough evidence. I'll require at least 3 burns each, verifying equal fuel, room-pot-stove-water temp measured with each cup on each of the stoves, 6 runs each. I'll be looking for close if not identical temperatures and times. Does the right stove, albeit constructed similarly, run hotter then the left? You lit the left stove first but the right stove burned out first indicating higher fuel flow. 6 tests should show us the answer, which I believe will be no different

  • Nice vid brotha! Awsome comparison. Hey watch the hammer on those fingers........LOL

  • Myth busted :o) Paint not needed...hehe! Looks cool though!

  • Tinny said it made a "substantial difference" when he was selling them a couple years ago. Now that he's not and after hiram made a video proving otherwise, he did a backflip and tried to cover his errant statement. He essentially said hiram fudged his results of "almsot no difference) and backpacker magazine's test was clearly way off (30-40% improvement), but his "substantial difference" was "closer to the truth". I think it's clear there is no substantial difference either.

  • just like mythbusters ;) Thanks for the video

  • I wouldn't bother with the black paint. As well as hardly making any difference in boil time, they take longer to make, and the user will be worrying about scratching the paint off and all that.
