I did it in a class experiment once and about 40% of us (out of the 15) saw things. The classmate hosting the experiment mixed the white noise himself so it was a little extra. Personally, I saw things. It was like when you stare into the dark for too long while in bed at night. You sort of see these loose colors that eventually/occasionally formed things and they get larger or smaller but when you try and refocus your eyes the visions pretty much go away.
