God moves the Brazil nuts to the top because they taste the best.

  • As I am just watching the new episode of QI I can't help but think the good people there should watch this channel. The answer about the brazil nut effect is, that nobody knows why this effect happens.

  • The experiment with the glass beads and the aluminum washers reminds of many other granular dynamics videos I've seen including the "bouncing balls" experiment. I can't help but link them in my mind into some grander concept. I really feel that these effects are all the same and directly relate mass, entropy and attraction. The washers are attracted to eachother due to their having less average energy than the beads - entropy increasing locally.

  • They're called nigger toes. Get it right, k thanks.

  • i wonder if the pattern of "red and black" has anything to do with setting up a standing wave of density. would it make a difference if the period of the shaking were more or less uniform?

  • @Rulerofwax24

I'm out of breath because I'm old --- sorry about tha.

  • @lukejtmulder since the conclusion to the video is that "nobody knows why", if you choose to associate it to why theres order in the world, then nobody knows why. Just the will of god perhaps, if you choose to believe.

  • @qixil he was simplifying the concept of what he was talking about. Although the incorrect triffles may be misleading, the theory he was explaining was probably too complex to pay attention to stuff like that.

Besides, chances are if you're watching this video, he's still smarter than you.

  • Could this help explain why there is order in the universe instead of chaos?

  • It's disappointing how quickly this guy runs out of breath from shaking the tubes. It makes it much more difficult to listen when he was just able to breath.

  • CESHOO NUT! :D

  • Gravity is not 9.8 m/s - that's a speed - who is this guy?

It's 9.8 metres per second squared.

And ratcheting can work in both directions.

    Arrrgh!!!
