Instead of using an edit point curve on your two curve segments and ending up with a single span curve that really didn't match your two curves, try using the attach command with connect enabled. Then use the fit curve tool on the curve you just joined with the attach tool to create a clean single span curve and adjust the degrees until the CV's and deviation look good.
Also why do you say more than 3 degree curves are for noobs? You are not achieving class A using 3 degree curves and surfs.
@jsampson82 Yeah, you can use attach and fit, but you would need higher degree curves for it to fit properly I think. I was mostly referring to the context of this specific example there was no need to use more then degree 3 span 1. Class A I referring to is G2 continuity and nice looking highlight flow / lowest degree / span possible. You are correct that it is not Class A if you change the definition of it to G3, I agree G3 is needed on large slabs, and may require higher degree's. Spans=bad
