@sugarbist I didn't mean to express that Gigli was1dimentional as the other2were.Gigli was terrific&was able to make the transition from the lyric roles to the spinto with a lot of success.Forza Chenier,Tosca&Cavaleria were wonderful.My brother also preferred the sweeter sounding voices like Gigli, DiStefano&Pavarotti as I prefer Del Monaco,Corelli but also DiStefano.I think each of us have a siren in our brains that encourages us to prefer 1 type of voice over another.Try GD'sA non credevi tu

I am in complete agreement with your comments about Pertile and Lauri Volpi.They,along with DelMonaco and Corelli were all superb dramatic tenors with tremendous squillo and projection.And they were unequalled in those dramatic tenor roles like Manrico.I just have always been partial to the sweet,golden tones of lyric tenors Gigli,Schipa and the wonderful EARLY DiStefano(before he ruined his voice.But I disagree re: the great Gigli.Not one dimensional IMO.Ciao

@CraigFrancisSoto Pertile had the ability tosing lyric belcanto&inflictdramatic impact whennecessary.Pertile also was extremely versatile because of his commanding tecnique.His voice wasnot beautiful but Pertile most definitely sang beautifully&was admired greatly by his peers, most noteably Galliano Masini&Corelli.Schipa & Valetti,ALTHOUGH BEAUTIFUL&refined, were basically one dimentional singers Gigli was great&gifted with a beautiful voice&it was almost impossible for him to sound bad

@CraigFrancisSoto The resonance&vibrato in Lauri Volpi's voice perhaps attributed to the fact that his voice penetratred the opera houses& travelled more than any other voice in history.Perhaps Gigli Schipa&Valetti were more pleasing to the ear But Lauri Volpi,&Pertile were a force to be reckoned with as Del Monaco& Corelli were.Lauri Volpi sang everyting from Elisir Da More to Puritani Hugonuts&William Tell IN PITCH.He was possibly the best Manrico in history.Pertile .Continued
