Im doing an assignment on human rights in the context of the war on terror and the further i progress the more human rights violations appear. i say thank God Bush is no longer president. "Human rights and security go hand in hand. Human rights are key to achieving peace. The only way of countering terrorism is with justice."

America is very good at bombing the shit out of poor Middle Eastern civilians that have about three rusty missiles from 30 years ago and a crate of AK-47s with which to defend themselves. Fighting a country such as North Korea, which might well have weapons of mass destruction, is a little bit riskier, that's why USA lost the Korean war.

riz fascinating as allways, about this i have the stong notion torture as an institution is underestimated. The real level of torture 8 years ago was quite as horrible, altho it was less in the open even. I don't get how mary robinson would not know this. I do agree with her that the danger in the trend is great tho. Its a difference wether the western nations at least verbally denounce torture or promote it.
