This is not cellular automata.

The method I came up with to do this may be new. Haven't seen anything like this kind of growth anywhere else. If anyone has, let me know. I based this on the exact same rules as my other growth pattern video that created the Sierpinski Triangle but I used a hexagonal surface on this instead.

My method can create tons of different varieties of these things depending on the starting conditions. Very very easy to change a couple things around to make even more beautiful growing designs.

If you pay attention, you'll notice that there is a main pattern of 8 phases. The first phase or two are probably cut off in this video but you should get the idea as you watch it grow. After 8 phases, it cycles through the same basic patterns again, only they are bigger and more elaborate.

Note: The video capture wasn't perfect enough to show all the dots in perfect detail. That's why it looks a little messy.
