you need new spark plugs. but nice p5

Dont take it to the mazda dealers.. they will steal your money and leave you wondering why you have refurb or old replacements in your car... infact... just find a really amazing mechanic.

my mazda protege 02 makes the same sound too, i bought it used as my first car with 78K miles on it. i thought that sounds normal. but after reading donutthrowinbdass comment, im curious now. is that a really really big issue, im planning to use the car for atleast 5 years

One thing to keep in mind was that the morning I did this both of the cars were 'very' (relative) cold; they hadn't been driven in 2 days and it was an unusually cold Arizona morning. Now in the summer it doesn't do it as bad. I am going to try to have somebody look at it.

Did you find what was doing that noise?

[@Maxtheraz] No, since it isn't my car I couldn't convince the owner to take it in.

ya lol. This one is recommended by the experts ;) I was surprised when most of the european cars weren't well rated at all.

Yeah, those German cars are known for the exceptional reliability, but the Japanese aren't known for their human touches (like comfort, features, and performance). Both cars have their many pros and cons.
