  • Hi PJ Been loving your posts for a while now,,, please don't be offended by us over sensitive Brits when It comes to "Northern" Soul... The debates started years ago and will continue to do so until it is no more ( thats what keeps it alive)

Thanks for the education around doo wop I had always had an interest and now check it out all the time. As regards above track???? 30 years a go it wouldnt have stood a chance... today as Northern as whippets, mushy peas, flat caps & Cory :)

  • I'm not offended by anyone's comments, but thank you for acting as a Northern Soul ambassador :)

To be honest, when I posted this I hardly knew a thing about Northern Soul. I was being educated by the same fools that consider anything with a beat Northern Soul. If I were to post this today I'd probably refer to it as 60's r&b and possibly even popcorn.

Northern Soul is still quite confusing to a lot of Americans (myself included). I appreciate any honest education I can get.

  • PJ. I totally agree with Rictic66. The debates still range around Northern, Years ago it was Northern V Southern i.e anything south of Watford gap (funky stuff played in London) but even there we had outposts in the Capitol, I personally bought records from Record Corner in Balham. Northern is constantly evolving musically wise, hence the slower tempos & R&B flavours of today, however the friendships & camaradery of yesterday still apply today.

In a nutshell "Northern Soul is a way of life"

  • @OURNORTHERNSOUL - Thanks so much for giving me even more info. As a curious American I enjoy the insight.

  • Is the record for sale???

  • Hey scarface. Although I've had a few tempting offers, I can't bring myself to sell this record unless I found a stock copy (which a few of presume may not exist) or a promo in similar condition.

  • popcorn.

  • @PJDooWop I think in short, if a track had "that" melody, that special sound about it which brought about a feeling, be it a fast floor filler like the Theme from Joe 90 or a slow ballard, and the beat fitted the dance, it was quickly snapped up and adopted as Northern Soul, be it Len Barry or LuLu...

  • @OURNORTHERNSOUL

As a cambridge lad of the time we had both the northern and southern around ours some tried to mix it,but for me the many hours hitchhicking up to wigan, stoke blackpool, and who could forget wolverhampton, those where the days, the long trip home still buzzing from the sounds, the dj,s russ ,stan, down our way della.shaped my life, and still do,

  • I love that northern soul has its own following...can someone please explain to me how it became so popular n why do you speed it up at times?? Inquiring minds want to know?

  • nice wee tune

  • just sold on ebay for £100..the type of sound that was getting played in the 90`s at northern soul venues but only seem to get played in certain rooms playin certain styles today

  • @PJDooWop Been into Northern and collecting the stuff since '82 and I'm still confused so you are not on your own mate!

  • Ya thanks homeboy for the info. Sounds firme
