This is a documentary that focuses not only on Shorncliffe Redoubt and Time Team's three day dig there, but also the history surrounding the site.

It was edited and produced by Adam Paylor (designvision.org.uk) and written and narated by Michael Haynes (michaelhaynes.name).

This production is a tribute to the Time Team episode 'Sharpe's Redoubt'.

  • There was nothing revolutionary about the rifle; they'd been used by both sides in the American War of Independence.

  • Indeed, but they had not been used in the British or French armies... so during the Peninsualr war the rifle was Revolutionary.

  • I just wish time team had been around 60/70 years ago so they could have preserved places ruined by war, such as the druidic 'lake of little stones' on anglsey which is now covered over by an airstrip...lol. hope they keep up the good work, preseving what we still can toady =]

  • Funny, some would say that the french revolutionary forces created the first modern infantry men.

  • @hognoxious its not so much about the rifle itself but about the tactics used in creating the rifle regiment thats the point being made

  • I would agree with hog noxious. That rifles had been used in the American revolution including the backer. But, the guns used in that war had mostly been hunting guns and had all been used by irregular troops. Save, I think two light regiments of foot in the British army. The 95TH is, if you will, the start of modern infantry. Shoot & scoot type irregulars tactics used by line troops.

  • excellent!...some of the poor 95th died at the battle of new orleans usa...maybe time team can did up pakenham's army mass graves left in usa!/milwaukee

  • Want to bet?

  • no way would they be able to build over such a historicol site

  • No surprise The Brits Designed the rifle Since They have always be renoun for knowing how to shoot. Btw at this point im comparing to Yanks.

  • It had been used on a regimental scale. Before any unit went forward the light companies usually rifles went forward.

  • I thought it had been used by the Brits in the American Revolution but not on a Regimental scale.
