'Just a little bit of improvised 'noodling' to test out a 2002 model Fostex VF80 8-track digital recorder, which I bought recently.
Recorded using my Stagg sw206ce-n electro-acoustic's under-bridge piezo pick-up, connected to the unbalanced 'line' input on the Fostex.
'Hall' echo/reverb added in mix-down.

I thought it had a chilled-out atmosphere which suggested 'clouds', to me, so I decided to post despite the many imperfections.

I think it has some interesting moments. Hope you enjoy :]

P.S. The sculpture of a diver at 1:13 is called "Still Falling". It was created by internationally-renowned figurative sculptor, Antony Gormley, who is famous for his " Angel Of The North" and, more recently, for his haunting figures standing along the strand in Liverpool. They look out to sea, towards America, reminding us of the fact that Liverpool was once a major British port for the slave trade.

THE LOCATION:
The video was filmed in Tout Quarry Sculpture Park, on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, U.K.
This is the last remaining example of a totally hand-worked quarry on the Island. Stone was removed by drilling a series of holes, into which metal wedges were placed. Teams of men hammered-in the wedges and the stone cracked along the natural flaw which had been chosen.
The quarry has not been worked for almost a hundred years but in 1983 an international symposium of sculptors was held there. It was a huge success and it was decided that it simply must continue. A 30 yr year lease was granted by the owners and sculptors from around the world continue to contribute to the Art on display. Entrance is free! Take a bottle of water if you visit on a sunny day. It can get very hot.

Video filmed on a Sony A1, in hdv format. Edited in iMovie 6, using a Mac Pro G4 with dual 1.25ghz PowerPC processors.

  • Really nice work, enjoyed listening!

  • @TheBarrettMusic Thx for stopping-by, Mark, and for your kind words. 'Means a lot, coming from a working musician.

  • DIgital still hasn't really caught up to the sound of tape unfortunately. The middle frequencies on this sound nice. I like the picking at the end which seems to hover between the major and the minor...bit like clouds actually.

  • @CurtisMateer Hey, Pete, thx for stopping-by & for your great comment :]
