It's been accused of carrying an anti-Christian message(mocking the way people continually search for heaven and forget about life on earth).
But the more popular version says that it is a song about suicide bombers, the senseless waste of life because they believe they'll reach some kind of salvation
"What are you fighting for? Holy Truth?"
"There's no golden gate, no heaven waiting for you"
There are just the main opinions I've heard, I'm not certain what they actually wrote it about.
