The diary has text under each picture (angel etc) and it corresponds to the compass on the right side with angel looking north etc.

I was stuck for like 20 minutes reading the diary before it finally made any sense.

It felt really satisfying in the end to solve it without a guide

I thing I figured it out, every statue is supposed to face the direction the letter says in the diarry! S=south and so on, realised that after I had thought about it for a while haha, but it was this video that helped me get through.
