The offensive mission of the infantry is to "locate, CLOSE with and destroy the enemy"...
Therefore, for sake of argument, let's say your unit somehow gets past enemy sentries (need stealth and removal TTP) and comes upon their main body and has been firing & maneuvering from long-range to short-range to Close Quarters Battle (CQB) distances...
How are you going to do "destroy" the enemy in the middle of a magazine change or worse you are OUT OF AMMO with enemies less than 10 feet away?
The reality is that shooting bullets is not the only--or often the best--form of military force available to the infantry (Airborne, Ranger, "Special" etc.), commandos or other type "operators"...often the BAYONET is what's needed...and it's BAYONETS that gets used:

Again, yet another tool the fools in the USMIL bureaucracy fear and ignore to our detriment....
@Ag3nt0fCha0s Mea Culpa. A Typo I failed to notice and correct. My apologies. Thanks for correcting it!
