My fathers parents both descended from Melungeons. Grandfathers mother name was Hannah White and his father was Bob Sydney-Fleming. My grandmother father maiden name was Ealy. They lived in Tennessee but, had some family in Kentucky, Louisiana, and Mississippi. I'm doing research. Does anyone know a reliable genetic DNA service in Houston, TX?

I know he did for a fact get a Portuguese pilot and some other portuguese...and he left them on a island in the Caribbeans....which the Spainish had found and took and started questioning. I've been talking with a gideon Gibson descendant alot lately..I was showing him how his gibson was associated with the Bunch family and the Collins of Bertie and was showing him how they are connected with Newman's ridge families. I've not studied Phineas Bunch yet...but I'll check that in a minute. My recent research has been on the NC coast...once I figured out the Bertie county familes was related I started seeing more stuff :)

I'm not sure Micijah and the others actually lived around Newmans Ridge, tho I do think there are family connections with the Ridge people. Zack Goins settled in an area of Hanwkins (later Hancock) that wasnt NR. The Goinses that came to NR seem to have been of different lines, tho they were prob related somehow, some were FPC, others werent. Also, there was more than 1 Micijah Bunch in the general area, tho the name suggests that they were related. Some of these people lived in Grainger Co.

Nichols is a name associated with the group of FPC Collinses that immigrated to the Nashville area, and they were also known locally as Melungeons to some, and "Portyghee" to others. One of Vardy's sons was married to a Nichols, tho the name is rare in the NR area.

P u familier with the Gideon Gibson and the SC Regulators? The Bunches were affiliated with these Gibsons 2, not sure if there were Collinses there. I believe they are all related, tho some may have been pretty distantly related by the time some of them migrated to NR. Louisa Co seems to b a common link between them all. R u familier with Phineas Bunch, the pirate? Many NR Melungeons claimd families were involved in piracy off Carolina coast. Some believe that's where Vardy got his money.
