AGL seem to be drilling a new well, or re-fracking an old coal seam gas well at the edge of Sydney on 17 May 2011. The site is less than a kilometre from houses at Glen Alpine. At one stage foam started spewing from a pipe under pressure. It later became more liquid and the spray drifted toward houses.

Does anyone know what it happening here? If so, email jeremy.buckingham@parliament.nsw.gov.au

  • @IolaLovesFashion No,quite the opposite. Fracking may release stress in the rock layers and promotes early movement (i.e. minor earthquake) well before the stress has built up to catastrophic levels and then gets released in a massive quake. Thanks for mentioning this because I think the authorities in San Francisco might consider this as a way to gradually release the San Andreas stressline and not wait for nature to wait another say 50years and then produce a killer quake.

  • @oomblikkies fracking actually also damages the earth, increasing the risks of earthquakes and other supposedly natural disasters.

  • so dodgey...

  • WATCH THE DERM INFORMATION VIDEOS AND VISIT SOME WEBSITES! All this information is freely available especially the fracturing chemicals...

  • I am sure many will remember what elderly people did to a dry bore hole - they dynamite it. Well, that was their version of fracking a bore hole and nobody complain about it. My guess is that the current uproar against fracking is not so much against fracking, but the chemicals used in the fracking. So, if they can provide a list of the chemicals used in their fracking and prove that each of those chemicals are safe, fracking should not be such a hot potato.

  • Shut it down ASAP!!!!!

  • @DanFWall what about the integrity of the great artesian basin, will that be 100% unaffected by the 40,000 wells in south QLD?

  • Google Search for "Dispelling the myths: Hydraulic Fracturing".

That should clear some of this up.

  • I didn't proclaim to know every chemical used. I DO know however, that the industry is Australia is regulated so tightly, that there are ZERO chemicals used in the process that can cause any significant environmental damage. I know this for a fact.

I never said that cow shit produces more methane than a producing well, I should have been clearer. I was referring to uncontrolled release of gas into the atmosphere, from a dedicated gas well - like the one we are discussing.

  • @DanFWall Good for you!!! give yourself a pat on the back. I work in the construction industry and that doesn't mean I know what every fucking company uses in all processes, likewise you don't fucking know all the chemicals that a drilling company uses do you? your full of shit, as full of shit as your property must be if you think that you can get more gas from all your precious cow shit than from a productive well!
