Yes, feral mice carry diseases and destroy property, but is there a reason to use a trap which is cruel? These mammals feel pain just as you do -- why not call your local city animal control office for a non-kill trap and ask them to relocate the feral mouse to a park or rural area. You would be praised for your caring and admired for your wisdom and sensitivity... and solve your mouse problem!
Make it a win-win-win situation!
