YOur example is nice. But like you said yourself the ferrari will beat it but it will cost (waay) more.
Same thing on the R1, it's (a lot) cheaper it will perform amazing for millions of people and even better for some because it has all technology in it and made to handle easy. While the aprilia handles a bit rougher, but the lap times will be better although it''s only 1 or 0.1 second faster.

@epiphonesg007 Hate to break the news to you, but more expensive doesnt always mean "better". Jap bikes are mass produced and Japanese have lean manufacturing to a science, hence they can build the same bike cheaper. Italian labor isn't cheap either.
Example of high price doesnt always mean "better": 2012 Nissan GTR has 530hp and 4?? ft-lbs torque. This car can be purchased for $100k. How much will the Ferrari cost that will compare or beat the GTR? Its a multiple of $100k I can tell you.
