ANCHOR:
Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej defended himself and his administration in the face of thousands of demonstrators camped outside Government House calling for his resignation.

STORY:
Thai President Samak Sundarevej says he will not resign. In his first public comments since Friday's protest march, the newly elected president spoke out in his own defense, facing thousands of protesters camped outside the Government house.

[Samak Sundaravej, Thailand Prime Minister]:
"I'll be patient for our country. I can say this because I am the Prime Minister and I am the Defence Minister. I understand everything even though I have governed the country for four months. I think I can handle the situation but the law still exists."

Samak won millions of rural votes on a pledge to revive the populist policies of ousted PM Thaksin Shinawatra. But his fortunes changed last month when he triggered fears of a political coup by vowing to smash anti-government protests.

[Arporn Pakaharn, Protester]:
"There are many people who have come out to protest. I want him to resign. I do not want our country to be in trouble and I feel sympathy for the King."

But Samak said he would not use the police or military to break up the protests, which might trigger even greater unrest in a country that is fiercely loyal to their king.

  • let's see.....he is the worst PM ever existed in Thailand. lol~ that's the fact.

  • Yes, my mum did see him.

  • The beginning, yes. But the rest, I couldn't hear what fucking Samak originally talked. So I don't know.

  • What ta fuck... the translation is totally different..

  • The Thai anti-government protesters are nothing more than a bunch of fascist thugs. It is extremely ironic that they call themselves the People's Alliance for Democracy, when what they really want is to instigate a military coup to overthrow a democratically elected government, so these thugs can get back to enjoy their nice little bourgeois upper and middle-class urban lifestyle at the expense of the rural poor who account for the majority of the Thai population.

  • To klwanmoe 1981
