Grasmere Maersk departing Fremantle Port 13.6.10

In this video, my favourite Maersk, 'The Gras' is departing our port, bound for the east coast of Australia - Melbourne, Victoria, which is 5 days away by sea, through the sometimes perilous Southern Ocean. The Grasmere Maersk is heading out to sea, with 'South Mole' (where we were standing) on her left, and on her right this area of land is known as 'Rous Head'. Built in 2000, the Grasmere Maersk sails under the flag of the United Kingdom, and her specifications are length - 294m and beam 32m. Also in this video guiding her out to sea are 2 of 3 of Fremantle Ports beloved tugs, Svitzers 'Eagle' and 'Falcon'. Toward the end of the video, out in what is known as 'Gage Roads', the ANL Windarra (visable) waits to enter the port!

Very nice Tania, and what a wonderful viewing location. How many miles is it from the entrance into the channel until to the containerterminal?

@thunfisch1967 1.50 miles Wolle! So it is a short distance. The ships take about half an hour from channel entrance to when they drop the ropes to moor.

I was on her July-November 2010 great ship! Great Port, although the Southern Ocean does get bumpy!

@cousiwa09 That is a short distance, and very good to make videos, because the vessels are going with very slow speed throug the channel. It`s a very nice place to make good shots!!!
