I believe it's just compressed, like an oxygen tank on your pack. It's like a liquid/gas rocket. Except no combustion, but it's more of a rocket pack than a jet pack.
So its not really a "jet pack", more like a "hydraulic propellant" pack? using a super-pressured gas or liquid? or is there a combustion process involved?
It hasn't actually been supressed. The problem now is the same as it was then - that it is not possible to carry enough fuel for more than around 30 seconds of flight time. The only way to achieve longer flights would be to create a superior motor set up or develop a more efficient feul system. They have been trying for 40 years without any real progress.

liquid or compressed nitrogen I think. Not sure which.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are they using compressed air as propellant rather than an actual jet engine?

Damn. I wish they'd hurry up and fix that little issue before I'm too old to fly one!
