  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (March 6, Transfiguration of Our Lord), I filled in at a local Lutheran Church. I played this as the opening hymn. It is #308 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

  • @jdkeyes2000 Sorry, the above should read: and _while_ double length...

You know how these comments can't always make sense and stay within 500 characters at the same time?

  • Beautiful! Thank-you for sharing!

  • @jdkeyes2000 - This is not a Lutheran chant, but a Lutheran chorale.

You are on to something, with the fermatas, but explain what you mean for us better if you would be so kind. While I have never heard this chorale sung this way, pointedly you could say, and double length is not unusual for fermatas, remember the actual lenghth of the note beyond its regular length is up to the performer. We don't talk though of sustained white notes, etc. here though, if that's what you meant, as in chant.

  • If you are going to sing a Lutheran chant,, then do it in chant form. I agree with the post below that it MUST have the fermatas between the phrases or it just sounds wrong. Other than that great harmony.

  • Even though it's correct, it bugs me hearing this without the fermatas held out.

  • Beautiful job!
