  • @OrangeSodaKing Check out his Night Wind Sonata and Piano Concerto No. 2, both in definitive performances by Hamelin - you won't be disappointed! ;)

  • I don't know much of Medtner, so I have decided to listen to a lot of his music. I liked this!

  • @huhas1 I see the appeal in it, I just think some are even more appealing. I like march of the paladin, the magic violin, and op8.2 is one of my favorite. I just think the ones that I listed are more immediately appealing than this, but for some reason this is the popular one. yeah maybe because its shorter.

  • @Gargantupimp I did not say it is my favorite. Why it's popular?? This is early Medtner , may be is more accessible for ears of so called "wider audience".. You can see comments, most of these people obviously don't know anything else by composer. So let say this is start. I hope some of them will be interested to look further.. May be not quintet, sonatas(piano, violin) but for the beginning piano pieces of this size and specially songs.

    What's your favorite?

  • @huhas1 Why is this one so popular? Not one of my favorites for sure, Sure is dramatic though.

  • Gorgeous music! Incomprehensible why Medtner is relatively forgotten, he could and should be at least as popular as Rachmaninov.

To anybody who's wondering about his distinctly non-Russian surname: Russian-language Wikipedia states that he was of mixed German-Danish ancestry but his family had long been resident in Russia.

  • first 8 notes reminds me off chopin :)

  • Pezzo meraviglioso suonato da un pianista meraviglioso!

  • Beautiful, sublime recording! Thank you for sharing

  • unbelievable playing! so fantastic that we have this on record.
