This is some footage from a recent ride through Kamakura on a rickshaw. In Japanese they are called 人力車 (jinrikisha) which literally translates to human powered vehicle.

We use mostly Japanese in the video, though the important parts include English as well.

  • Do you remember in what area's you rode that on? Anywhere near Gokurakuji Station?

  • I do not know the names of the areas in the video, however the station you mentioned is close to Kamakura Station. If you look on Google Earth or another map and search for Kamakura Station you should see Gokurakuji station very close to the southwest.

  • Great video and your Japanese sounds very good!

Were you just lucky to get a bilingual jinriksha driver?

  • I'm glad you like the video and thank you for the compliment.

When we arrived at the jinrikisha area the employee there ran inside to grab an English speaking driver, because as would be expected he did not think I could speak or understand Japanese. It turned out for the best, actually, because I've been showing the full video to some of the beginner Japanese students that I tutor and friends who cannot speak the language.

  • What was the rate for the driver, and how long did he pull you around?

BTW, did the audio and video get out of sync after you uploaded to Youtube?

  • The rate was 1500 yen per half hour, per person. We rode for half an hour.

The audio and video was out of sync before I uploaded. I haven't troubleshot it yet but it occurs whenever I create a video (using Roxio MyDVD 10) over about 3.5 minutes long. Do you have any ideas or tips?

  • Thank you for sharing nice video!

    A part from 03.47 is Onari-cho,

just behind of JR Kamakura station.

    日本語、上手ですよ!

  • Thanks for the info. That seems very reasonable considering the work he's doing (and the fact that he speak English!).

Sorry, I'm a 'Mac head' so no real advice other than to search this subject in YouTube or online. I've found a few helpful tutorials this way.
