I don't know if this genre has an official title, but I like to call anime like Higurashi and Elfen Lied "Bipolar Anime," because they flip between two extremes: cute and heart-warming, and violent and disturbing.

This is great! I <3 this anime, and the song surprisingly fits. I love how this anime is gory, yet not gory to the point of masking up the story line. (Although the gore just makes the show a whole lot better! :3)
