Malalai Joya is one of Afghanistans leading democracy activists. In 2005, she became the youngest person ever elected to the Afghan parliament. She was suspended in 2007 for her denunciation of warlords and their cronies in government. She has just written her memoir, A Woman Among Warlords: The Extraordinary Story of an Afghan Woman Who Dared to Speak Out.

She spoke in New York at the Northeast Socialist Conference on October 23, 2009.

no doubt that she is speaking the truth, but its not so constructive to the process of rebuilding Afghanistan. She is too aggressive and naive. Love her english though--my people, my country.

For those of you who have watched this video:

You have just seen the woman who, in my opinion, should have received the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. Her new job should be as the senior advisor to the prize's actual winner on his Afghanistan policy. That is, she should be his advisor if there is any justice or rationality left in the world.
