Recorded in the Tyne Tees region, this is a non-standard standby junction into ITV Schools from Friday 11 October 1985. On Fridays that term, schools programmes did not begin until 09:35, five minutes later than usual, so at 09:30 Central networked a short live sequence promoting selected schools series. On this particular Friday, Mike Prince focuses on programmes concerned with health and social education.

Short in-house edits of James Aldenham's Growing and Pausing played at 09:28 before the programme promotion (the latter being a very odd edit!), then the standard interval tape was backtimed and used as a bed for the promotion. This backtiming appeared to go slightly wrong here, with a fair bit of dead air at the end of the clock!

At the start of the clip, you can catch a brief glimpse of the caption sometimes used by TTT to close their news headlines. They joined the network slightly after 09:28 (they tended to join any time before the 09:29 clock as a rule) so we don't hear the first 'Growing' track in full.

  • Excellent was just hoping for a few seconds of Start The Day. Tyne Tees Schools continuity seems a bit colder then Yorkshire dont know why. But Mike Prices V/O is very very good!

  • @CWvox4 The Start the Day episode that week would have been 'What Frightens Me?'. Well, all schools continuity came up the line from ATV/Central, so it was only the handover at 09:28 and the outro announcement that differed between regions. Most regions joined schools at 09:28 prompt, but Tyne Tees tended to join at any point before 09:29, depending on the length of their local news headlines. Although regions occasionally repaced the standard intervals with their own captions and/or music.
