  • Your sterile technique is wanting. The Vent should have been on the contralateral side of where the vein access is, that way, you minimize contact with the ET and the vent tubing. The sterile sleeve for the pacemaker wire should have been expanded all the way to the 10 cm marker, to minimize further contamination of the pacing wire. You should have had a long sterile extension cord (to connect the pacemaker wire and the pacemaker generator unit) that distances you from the bare handed nurse.
