From the 1920s to the 1950s, the tobacco industry undertook a marketing campaign to hide the hazards of smoking and lure new consumers to its products. This video combines campaign images and the commentary of Stanford experts to demonstrate key tactics in this strategy. With the number of smoking-related deaths estimated to climb from 100 million in the last century to 1 billion in the 21st century, this retrospect provides insight into the industry's ongoing pursuit of profits at the expense of public health.

  • This video is some bull. They ask why is smoking legal and then conclude that it is because the government makes so much money taxing it. The reason it is legal is because I have a right to do things that are unhealthy. further more, a lot of industry market their products as being healthier than they are, tobacco is not a exception to the rule, but it is scrutinized way too much.

  • In 2008 UK smokers spent £19,000,000,000 on cigarettes - that is why the fag industry are addicted to tobacco!

  • I smoke, and I agree that it is terrible, but the big problems today are obesity and alcoholism. Do you know that hard liquor is heavily advertised on cable TV, on sporting events? Kids are now being brainwashed into becoming alcoholics while they watch the NY Yankees.
