Getting Started on VATSIM- Part 1, Installation

@rayswin17 You have to set it. Caps Lock is a good choice, unless it's mapped to something else. Click on the stoplight-looking thing in your system tray (by the clock) and go to Voice -> VATSIM -> Key Mappings and set it there. Thanks for watching!

@worldspottingexhibit Its the .exe that actually runs your simulator. Again, I'm assuming you have Flight Sim X. Its located under (by default) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

@RanDoMkId73 Okay, I did all that on the shortcut previously.  I don't understand where to find this FSX.exe?

@worldspottingexhibit I didn't even think to ask this, but are you doing this on your FS shortcut? If so, just go to fsx.exe and start at number 2 above. I don't, unfortunately, I got busy and my computer actually crashed shortly after I posted this video and just recently got back into it. I did have it recorded, I just have to put it together. I'll try to get it up in the future.

@RanDoMkId73 Sorry but no, when I click "Open file location", it takes me to games :( Btw I am on an HP. Also do you have the next parts of the videos? Maybe if I solve it, it would be nice to see what to do next.

@worldspottingexhibit I'm on Win7 so it might be a little different, but you probably need to run FSX.exe as an administrator, not the shortcut.

1)Right click on the shortcut, click "Open File Location", then right click on FSX.exe and click "Properties".

2)Go to the Compatibility tab and at the bottom under Privilege level is "Run this Program as an administrator." You might have to click the Change Settings for All Users button below it first.

@RanDoMkId73 I have the same problem. I am on Vista and it is a little bit different to run it as admin. I know how to do it, right click icon > properties > under "Shortcut" tab, hit "Advanced". I do all that and when I get there, I have the option to run it as admin but I can't click it, all words are grey and it is selected to "Run in separate memory space" above it is the run as admin box but I can't click any of them. All it says is "ok" and "cancel" at the bottom. Any help? Thanks!

@Canadian737 I don't have the NGX, but one of my friends has it and he hasn't had any issues with it. If you have specific errors, search the VATSIM forums to see if anyone else has these issues.

On the installation, the steps I took in the video are following a post on the VATSIM forums, which say to leave everything as is. If you don't have any issues with it and it works, then you did fine. If you have issues, it's hard to say if that's what caused it or not.
