Well Tim, you are a sleep and when you die you will really awake. We all are .
This life is a reality before the reality, if you know what I mean .
Know yourself you know God) spirituality is only a journey or a path in which some people who live by it travel to God, the rest who don't, which is many of them, will live by their ego-lower self - which happen to be their own knowledge .

I sat on my bed and read 'lucid living'. I feel my awareness growing through my body, and out like a reaching tree. :-) Thank you for planting me.

...and, as you said in your presentation at St James's Church in London earlier this evening, this experience of 'oneness' does not mean the loss of the individual identity. We remain self-aware people / do not become 'Borg'.
Its my guesstimate however that the personal ego is changed (grows up?) - even if only in a way which makes it understand how the greater awareness is not the threat it would automatically expect it to be.
