  • Hi Errl - your youngest is gorgeous and you should bring her and her sister and her mum up here so i can hug you all and feed you spaghetti and talk about birth death and dames by the best bonfire in the Gatineaus. You need a Leaf's hat by the way, you Benedict

  • I am no longer a leaf fan.

    There--I said it.

    Go Senators Go!

  • HR, good video. Where is this hike though? It looks beautiful and I think that it could be close to me. I live in the York area of Toronto, from your other videos I guessed you're not too far from that. I'd love to take my girlfriend there now it's finally starting to defrost a bit around here.

    Andy

  • Andy:

As glifencible suggested earlier, we hiked at Ball's Falls (and area) which is near Beamsville, Ontario.

It wouldn't be too far from you, really.

  • Your daughter is smart. Thirteen is about the age I was when I knew I couldn't be sure. At 66 I'm still not sure, except that if the god I grew up with is real, I hate and reject him anyway. Of that I AM sure.

  • "He Who Must Not Be Named"

    I like that.

  • And now you know how guys like Qualiasoup feel. I mean, it's like trying to explain to a five year old why he shouldn't eat his own crap.

  • True - I suppose that all rational people are agnostic to some degree in that sense. The first step towards rational thought is to cast away certainty.

  • hmmm .... regarding "agnostic".

The term refers to a state of *knowledge*, not a state of *belief*.

From a practical perspective, we're all agnositic ... including Richard Dawkins, and Fred Phelps.

Perhaps your daughter is apathetic or undecided? ... and in that case, is she actually apathetic to the FSM, Thor, Zues, as well as all three versions of the Abrahmic God, or just apathetic that some diety or unknown character might exist?

  • These are good points, LynxChan.

  • However generally speaking the term "agnostic" is only used for religion because of the special rules religion has set up for itself. While with all other things like flying teapots, in the absence of positive evidence non-belief is the standard, with religion this is considered insensitive. In this case and no other people want you to explicitly express that you can't be SURE there is no god and therefore the default position is doubt. Fairies are not afforded the same privilege, but God is.

  • Only insomuch as we are also "agnostic" about fairies, flying teapots, invisible pink unicorns etc. If you call agnosticism the affirmation that you cannot be 100% certain of the non-existence of something then yes, everyone (theists and atheists) are agnostic about an infinite number of things.
