Largest haul of LTTE weapons recovered - March 29, 2009

Another large haul of weapons of the terrorists has been recovered. Troops of the 58th Division achieved this victory.
Manpower and the strength of weapons of the LTTE, confined to a small stretch in North of Puthukudiyiruppu, are diminishing. They are now left with only taking their final decision in the face of heavy attacks from the troops from three flanks. Troops of the 58th Division commanded by Brig. Shavendra Silva recovered the haul of weapons and explosives. The Commander inspected the stock before handing it over to the Wanni Defence Headquarters. There were 1260 T-56 weapons, four T-86 weapons and 30 LMGs. It is a considerable stock for a force. A majority of the 30 RPGs recovered are usable. A notable feature was the recovery of 1500 kilograms of C4 explosives. The terrorists could have unleashed a major destruction if they had used these explosives. Parts of eight 120mm artilleries had also been found. The terrorists had greased some weapons with the intention of burying them. The troops had defused 2000 anti personnel mines which had been laid by the terrorists to prevent their advancement. The acquisition of 50,000 detonators by the 58th Divisional troops is another major victory.
