"Hana - The Flower 2" is based on The Legend of Amida Pond, a story from an ancient Japanese legend. The Amida Pond still exists in the heart of Osaka City. It served as a meeting place for people to gather to talk, dance, sing, and pray to the goddess of the Pond. Despite the constant changes in the environment and society around it the Pond has stayed the same. It remains a sacred place.

The story celebrates the victory of humanity over unfairness and misfortune, and the triumph that a single person, with courage and determination, can achieve. The spirit of the story should be meaningful to the hearts of people around the world.

Keiko Fujii is artistic director of the Keiko Fujii Dance Company and choreographer of this evening`s work. Her company was established in 1983 and based in Osaka, Japan. They present an extensive repetoire of works by Fujii at home and on tour. They have appeared throughout Japan, in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Honolulu.

Hana - The Flower 2 will feature slides and visuals by Hawai`i-based photographer and videographer Dean Sensui, and costumes by Hideko Sugai/Deco Japan, Inc.
