Has Jay Z ripped off Paloma Faith? To me both choruses seem to have the same chord progression, same melody and almost the same lyrics.

Paloma Faith's song has been forgotten about because of Alicia Keys's Because it's Either more popular or just because of Jay-z in it.

i love both songs and i think 'new york' has become popular in lyrics. i see what you mean but jay z takes songs and changes them to make them his own. maybe thats what he did.

Yep your right they both contain the words 'New York. And thats as far as it goes. The melody is quite different, and no the chord sequence is quite different with Alicias only containing 2 chords and Palomas being slightly more complex.
You'll be saying its the same as Frank Sinatras next. Oh and then theres Billy Joel, Gerard Kenny....

Believe me, there may be some extensions on the chords and they may be in a slightly different order, but they're definately in the same key and they meloies are very simliar
