To Be Cherished, written and illustrated by Danielle Alexandra

Once upon a time
A little baby was born.
She was beautiful.
She was healthy and never looked sick.
She was so loved
And so cherished
That she assumed she didn't have to cherish any one else.

She had all the things you could imagine.
All the food she could ever choose to eat.
Every book she could ever want to read.
All the pretty clothes she could ever wear.
All the servants she could ever need.

But she did not cherish all her things.
She wanted more.
More than she needed.
More than she could see with her own two eyes
More than she could hold with her own two hands.

As she grew more and more fond of objects,
She grew to become bitter and uncaring.
She became ugly with greed, jealously, and unhappiness.
Greed because she would not share her pretty things.
Jealous because when someone had something she didn't
She'd grow Green with Envy.
Unhappy because she always wanted more.

She became a lonely girl.
Losing all her friends because she did not share.
It was not until the last person who gave her so many nice things walked away did she finally come face to face with a mirror.
This wasn't any old mirror that just portrayed the outside form.
This mirror told the truth
This mirror showed the little girl for what she was; sad, lonely, and very unpleasant to look at.

She snarled, she gasped, she cried.
This was not who she wanted to be
with no one to look into this mirror with.
She had nothing anymore.
No one to mourn with her.
No one to mourn about her.
No one to enjoy life's simple pleasures with.
This was not who she wanted to be.

She watched her teary form in the mirror and exclaimed, "How do I fix it?!"
The mirror had no answer, just an echo.
The mirror couldn't help right now, but maybe another wiser person will?

She looked and asked, asked everyone who would look at her face.
She asked all the people who passed her on the street.
She looked and asked, looked and asked.
No one gave her an answer.

She ran back alone to the mirror crying.
The last thing she had was that mirror.
The last thing she held dear.

She knelt in front of it.
She asked the mirror one last time if it could help her.
It could not.
But the little girl could do something.

Once upon a time
A little girl found someone who needed a mirror,
To wash the dirt off their face.
This little girl gave the last thing she owned to this person.
Now with nothing she walked away.

The person, confused, cried after her to wait!
The girl turned and said "The mirror told me to give it to you."
The person was so relieved to be rid of the dirt!
The girl could not just walk away!
This person, knowing she needed dinner for tonight,
Shared with her the things he had.

The End

  • If you found a new shining hammer on a remote planet, would you think it got there by evolution?

But then, you look in the mirror in your shining eyes... and they created themselves? Do you know complexity of your eyes? brain? heart? all organs?

How did the partial heart with veins and circulating blood evolved? partial lung? partial liver?

It had to come together at once, hence it had to be PREDESIGNED.

Humans create millions of video cameras, yet they can't create a simple eye.

  • you are a beautiful insightful & wise girl

  • Creation theory is not proven, because it is not a theory at all - it's a religious belief. Which is fine as far as that goes, as long as you don't try to present it as science. You talk about contradictions? Well, true - you don't get any when your ultimate answer to any questions is "Because God made it so". But that actually has the exact same information value as saying "We don't know". There's no danger of contradiction when there's no information in the first place.

  • My friend Dani gave me the copy of this book. I passed it on to some children I know. I thought it was a good thing for them and the message was good for me too. Dani is a positive in the world.

  • Just...wow. Honestly, I do not have words to describe that. Very well made, you've got a talent for writing and illustration as well. The quote stuck with me as well at the introduction. "Have a really good day. Because that's all we should really have. Good days."

  • One doesn't understand the complex dynamics of some of the replies...but I got the basic meaning of the story :D

A lesson to be learned, something that brought a smile to my face and relieved a little stress in one's life.

    Thx Dani.

  • Danielle, I'm worried about you. On your latest posting you are looking much thinner. Are you OK ?

  • Danielle, This story reminded me of the nursery ryme The Little Red Hen, Also a Story by O'Henry, The Gift of the Magi. You might want to read those if you haven't already.

My own take on this is when I question "When Is Enough" It's when you raise the Question. Then it's enough....I love you.......John
