Our objective in making it available on YouTube is to give you an idea of the level of detail you can expect each lesson and to introduce you to the ground-breaking linear learning format that makes the Gracie Combatives DVD collection the most highly regarded martial arts instructional DVD series of all time.

If you enjoy the sample clips, from lesson 1, you can purchase the complete 36-lesson DVD collection here: http://www.gracieacademy.com/storeitem.asp?r=74960

Here is some more information about the Gracie Combatives course:

The Course
Although Gracie Jiu-Jitsu consists of more than 600 techniques, studies of the fights conducted by members of the Gracie Family show that 36 techniques have been used more often, and with greater success, than all the other techniques combined. Originally developed for the U.S. Army, Gracie Combatives is the only course that is entirely dedicated to the mastery of these 36 essential techniques. Until recently, this course was taught exclusively at a small network of Gracie Academy certified training centers, but now, the complete Gracie Combatives course is available on DVD and can be learned from the comfort of your own home!

The Objective
What makes the Gracie Combatives collection so unique is that it is the only instructional DVD series ever produced with the sole objective of taking the viewer - regardless of their age, gender or athletic ability - from no knowledge to street ready without ever stepping foot into a school of martial arts. Every other instructional video series to date was designed to give viewers additional techniques and tips to complement the training they were receiving at an actual school of martial arts, whereas the entire Gracie Combatives series was produced under the assumption that the viewer had absolutely no previous experience.

Dynamic Reflex Development
What separates Gracie Combatives from other martial arts instructional DVDs is a revolutionary teaching system called Dynamic Reflex Development™. Although there are thousands of martial arts instructional DVDs in existence that show the viewers how to do various techniques, up until now, there has never been an instructional series that gives the viewers the exact system they must follow to develop their reflexes in the execution of all the techniques in combination with one another. In each Gracie Combatives lesson, the new technique is first presented to you in the form of simplified drills, or Technical Slices™. Then, it is combined with one other technique in a Reflex Development Drill™. Finally, at the end of each lesson, you will learn how to execute the newly learned technique in the context of a real fight by combining it with several other techniques in a Fight Simulation Drill™.

The Blue Belt Qualification Test
Gracie Combatives is the most comprehensive instructional series ever produced by the Gracie Family. Comprised of 13 DVDs and over 18 hours of instruction, this collection features every detail of every technique that must be mastered before one is considered for blue belt. On the 13th DVD of the collection, you will find a complete demonstration of the Blue Belt Qualification Test that one must pass to qualify for promotion (this is the exact same test that students take for promotion at the Gracie Academy). Once you become extremely proficient in the execution of the five Blue Belt Qualification Drills (BBQDs), you are invited to test for promotion at any Certified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Center. If you do not live near an accredited school, you can also test for promotion using the revolutionary Gracie Video Evaluation Process. Through this process, you will digitally record your performance of the five BBQDs, and then upload the videos to the Internet at http://www.GracieUniversity.com. Your videos will be viewed by a Gracie Academy instructor and if you meet Gracie Academy standards, your name will be added to the list of Certified Belt Holders and we will mail you an official Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt!

There is some truth to this, but your point is very limited. Gracie JJ knowledge has never been more valuable BECAUSE of the rapid popularity growth of the UFC and "Brazilian" JJ (and not in spite of it). The later two have enabled bad technique and the perception of proficiency in many fighters and even fans. Just because someone can recognize an armbar doesn't mean that they have the knowledge and muscle memory to execute in a real fight scenario.

You have to know how to grapple to NOT have to grapple. The easiest place to do weapons disarms is on the ground. It's also the easiest place to counter dirty fighting tactics. Attempt a eye gouge = broken arm, attempted stab = broken shoulder

  • @tippet76

I don't think this is realistic, maybe it's different from place to place but in 6 years of military experience, with alot of hard core UFC fans and tough-guys; the GJJ/BJJ knowledge was simply not there. People may know what a arm bar looks like but developing the reflexes to execute or defend one was rare, and by rare I mean I was the only practitioner in 6 squadrons of hundreds of people

  • @ryandoesamvlogs

You can't do anything except possibly hold the biceps, however try it with your training partner, you'll find it is a very unnatural place to throw strikes and that it is very difficult to generate any momentum/force. Best thing to do is just hide your sensitive parts (eyes/mouth/ect) and wait your turn to return the damage :-)

  • @GracieAcademy what can you do to prevent him hammer fisting you in the face while you put your face on his chest?

  • Let's be honest that 99.9% is now like 50% after UFC Jiu Jitsu has been very effective because nobody knew what it was. now that it's more popular it's part of a lot of street fighters arsenal. Obviously you still need to learn it so that others don't use it against you but don't be surprised if somebody tries to mount and arm triangle or arm bar you in a fight because it's not a secret art anymore.

  • @runeHacker333 If you weren't so ignorant and you noticed that someone told you they teach weapon defense, you'd prolly not be running your mouth about it. Obviously on the ground, the odds of a bad guy reaching in his pocket to grab the knife is very unlikely. I'd bet that you're the type that runs your mouth more than showing some action.
