I miss the whacky shack soooo much its unreal...

if they fixed up the Whacky Shack and it's colourful cast of characters with all new paint, parts etc and the place had hallways wide enough for wheelchairs to ride through I'd go there and sit there eating my lunch watching the Rat try and grab it from me.

wow, this brings back so many memories from my childhood. i hate that joyland is now in a state of decay. such a shame.

@rwk360 I worked there as a ride operator the first year the ride was open -1974.
It's in terrible shape now and the park is closed. According to the Bill Tracy website this was his last known project.

@rwk360 yes, it is still there. i just walked through it yesterday.

My boyfriend has snuck into Joyland multiple times. One night, him and his friend snuck in and decided to go into the Wacky Shack, and when they were in there, they walked in on a satanic worship. So after hearing that, I'm kinda scared to go in Joyland.

It's funny how the stairs on the way up used to be black light lit, not dark. You could watch the fake ceiling crack. The spider was illuminated. The train sound room had strobes and tinfoil, I'm sure there's more. Then lights would go out I guess and it became just a dark ride or whatever. And no more train sound.
Is it still there even though it closed? If it opened in 1974, then it opened the year I was born as I was born Jan 14, 1974. Bill Tracy the builder of this ride and others like at Dorney Park and Wildwood, NJ (all gone), Ocean City, MD and Waldameer, Erie, PA (still operating) passed away August, 1974 so this was one of his final projects. I rode and saw several Bill Tracy dark rides over the years, in the early 80's at Dorney Park & Hunt's Pier they had a Whacky Shack. Rode OC MD Haunted House

It's still there. Rotting away. It won't be for much longer.
