It is extremely rare to see any footage of Mike Ratledge talking or being interviewed. I think there are only 5 or 6 instances of it in total recorded history (early interviews '67, '69, the '70 POP mini-docu, and the '73 Paris interview. (And this one-1971). Mr. Ratledge is such a gentleman. You rarely have this kind of intelligent leadership in the band-ethic anymore. Getting a song like 'Teeth' performed live in the studio without sequencers must have been a gargantuan task.

@ChannelLightVessel Hugh Hopper: Loved forever by all his fans. Soft Machine were at the head of the pack of Progressive underground U.K. bands.Soft Machine Egg Henry Cow/Slapp Happy National Health Caravan Gilgamesh Khan Gong Van Der Graaf Generator. Hugh ran his bass through a fuzz box and pioneered his own turf. He is forever alive with every note he recorded.

Rob wasn't fired....... he left to pursue other desires! As did Hugh, and eventually everyone else......... we won't speak of a bloke named Jenkins. I feel this fourth album was actually the last of the true Soft sound.

Too bad Wyatt was fired right after this album, they were on a nice trip !
